The Douzelage is a unique European organisation which promotes for the public benefit educational, sporting, cultural and employment links within Europe generally and specifically with the Douzelage towns of the European Union. Douzelage alliance was brought into being in 1991 and we have 27 such member towns, one in every European country. Despite our number of towns, we retain our “Douze” as the EU retains its twelve stars (the number of original members) on its flag. We aim to build enjoyable and worthwhile relationships between the very different member towns, their individuals and groups of people with common interests. This is achieved through a programme of events, taking advantage of European funding schemes, as well as providing opportunities and contacts for activity groups between towns.
It is a non-political and non-sectarian body.
The success of the Douzelage was recognised by receipt of a European Union Gold Star award.
If you are interested to make friends or find people of like interests across Europe then please contact one of the people below. All Sherborne area residents are most welcome to join in the activities.
