Castle viewing takes place over 3 floors, with 4 sets of stairs. Only the ground floor is accessible to wheelchair users (but does contain some of the most notable rooms). There are resting chairs for visitors in most rooms and a Braille transcript of the guide book is available. The garden and grounds cover a large area with full access for wheelchair users. Garden paths all have a smooth gravel surface and benches are located throughout the garden. Tearoom, gift shop and toilets are all accessible in the Castle Yard. Disabled parking, disabled toilet facilities, guide dogs accepted. Wheelchair ‘helpers’ free of charge.

The grounds of Sherborne Old Castle are mostly grassed, There are spaces for approximately 20 cars, located roughly 200 meters from the castle entrance, along a smooth graveled path. The shop is located close to the castle entrance and is wheelchair accessible. Unisex disabled portaloo are available on the site. No dogs allowed, although Assistance Dogs are welcome.

Main porch ramped for disabled access. Level access to most parts. Steps down to Lady Chapel at east end. Disabled public toilet 200 metres, in Digby Road.

Wheelchair ramp into the almshouse. Step down into the chapel. Mostly flat inside and to the gardens. Stair lift to the upper floor to view costumes at the top of the stairs.

Disabled access is available to the wheelhouse and Hindley Building. Access to the Visitor Centre only by steep grass slope or steps.

The museum is fully accessible for wheelchair users and pushchairs, and has two wheelchairs (push along) and two electric mobility scooters that can be reserved for use whilst visiting. Dedicated parking bays in the car park for wheelchair users. The museum has ample parking space including overflow parking for larger vehicles (e.g. coaches and motorhomes – please follow the overflow parking signs). Accessible toilets within the main foyer and in the museum. Baby changing facilities located in the toilets within the main foyer and in the museum toilets. Guide dogs welcome. If you have any specific access requirements, please call in advance.

Ground level entrance for those with limited mobility & wheelchairs. 95% of museum fully accessible for those in wheelchairs. Concorde 002, the ‘Brush with War’ and ‘Merlin Experience’ gallery in Hall 2 are not accessible for wheelchair users. Lifts to most first floor exhibits. Manual wheelchairs available – pre-booking advised. Trained guides can give tours to the visually impaired; pre-booking advised. Assistance not required to catering facilities and shop, ground level access. Tables for wheelchair users in restaurant. Disabled parking, disabled toilet facilities, accessible lift, guide dogs accepted.

Drop off point in main car park. Building – step to entrance; ground floor accessible; many stairs to other floors. Disabled toilets. Grounds – partly accessible, uneven paths. Map of accessible route. 2 wheelchairs, a six seater electric buggy service from the carpark to the house and 1 single-seater PMV – booking essential.

Parking 40 yards from house. Building – 3 steps to main entrance; alternative ramped entrance. Great Hall accessible via ramp; 2 other ground floor rooms leading off 3 ramped steps. Many stone steps to other floors. Disabled toilets. Grounds – gravel paths with ramped access into some parts of the garden. Steps to the North Garden fountain & children’s play area. Three wheelchairs for loan. Braille & large info.

Dogs are welcome on leads. N.B. some of the paths are uneven and steep making it inaccessible for wheelchairs.  Parking is available outside, opposite the church.
