Sherborne plans to mark the historic occasion of HM The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with a weekend of celebrations. Many of the town’s clubs and associations, with the support of the Town Council, are working together to plan a weekend of festivities and fun.
The celebrations will be centred mainly on Pageant Gardens and take place on the afternoons of Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd June.
The outline programme s far is as follows:
Saturday 2 June 2012
11.00 am ‘Ostriches’ parade up and down Cheap Street (Spot-the-Ostrich Competition underway from 26 May to 3 June when some shop windows will feature toy ostriches and Sherborne’s permanent architectural ostrich features will need to be identified. Entry forms at the Tourist Information Centre.)
2.00pm – 4.30pm Pageant Gardens
Games: Arts & Crafts; face-painting; storytelling; circus skills; skittle alley; ball in the bucket; hook the duck; tombola; ostrich race
Music: Radio Sherborne plays 1950s music
Stalls: Books; ‘pocket money’ toys; sweets; cakes
Catering provided by The Eastbury Hotel: Burgers and other hot food; cake; teas & coffees
Displays: Four Classic cars dating from 1951 and 1952; Museum jubilee material; Festive Flags
4.30pm – 7.00pm Pageant Gardens: Sherborne’s own local bands: Too Deep; Mark Webb & James Morton Jazz; Richard Clarke Music; A&T; M.A.D.I.S.O.N. – all broadcast live by Radio Sherborne
7.00pm – 9.00pm Sherborne Abbey: Jubilee-themed concert for all the family with music written for coronations and other Royal occasions.

Tea Party for those senior citizens in their eighties or those celebrating their Diamond Wedding Anniversaries. By invitation only; further details from the Sherborne Tourist Office.
5.00pm – 6.00pm Sherborne Abbey: A special Quarter Peal of bells for the Jubilee.
6.30pm Sherborne Abbey: An ecumenical evensong
